ePortfolio Completion Deadline October 7!

ePortfolios are a required measurement of CCMS curriculum and the accreditation process. 

Every student must complete their e-portfolio to be able to graduate. The portfolios will be evaluated.

1.  EVERY STUDENT MUST UPLOAD:

1 faculty assigned and approved assignment from:
  • Core Courses
    • COM 210 – Media Storytelling  (this is the course where the student CV, bio and one writing sample are completed)
    • COM 240 – Communication and Media Ethics
    • COM 261 – Communication and Media History
    • COM 280 – Applied Digital Communication
    • COM 360 – Communication & Media Research
    • COM 441 – Communication and Media Law
  • Capstone Courses
    • COM 451 – Integrated Strategic Communication
    • COM 457 – Senior Project in Visual Communication
    • COM 475 – Planning and Promotion for Events and Festivals
    • COM 481 – Advanced Converged Media
  • Arabic Courses
    • ARA 2/340 – Media Storytelling in Arabic I & II

2.  ALL COM 210 MEDIA STORYTELLING SECTIONS RECEIVE TRAINING IN THE FOLLOWING:

  • Naming their ePortfolio
  • Creating and publishing their third-person biography page
  • Creating and publishing their CV/Resume page including a PDF version for download
  • Uploading and linking their required files/media
  • Properly formatting their assignment posts
  • Populating/Updating their navigation menu
  • (Adding/removing widgets, tweaks to design – time permitting)

3.  IN COM 490 INTERNSHIP, THE INTERNSHIP ADVISER WILL REVIEW STUDENT EPORTFOLIOS.

  • Students must finalize the portfolio in the first 3 weeks of COM 490 for export to a package file.

4.  ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS

  • e-Portfolios should also contain:
    • Certificates for academic achievement, service/volunteering, and positions in clubs etc.
    • Links to mentions, records, articles etc. in which the student is named or Zayed University participation has been noted
    • Links to existing business or professional sites used by the student
    • Scans of papers or physical articles
    • (List of classes or transcript)

3.  Upload any PDF (all .doc/docx must be converted) or JPG assignments now

Password set/reset instructions:

  1. Please visit http://eportfolio.zajelzu.ae/
  2. To retrieve your CCMS ID and/or set/change your password, please click the “Lost your password?” link. Follow the instructions on the login screen and in the email from CCMSe-portfolios very carefully. 
  3. Save your CCMS ID and password in your mobile device. You can retrieve your CCMS ID and/or set your password at any time using step #2.
Required Courses:
Publishing instructions:
  1. Log in to your e-portfolio (e.g. http://eportfolio.zajelzu.ae/ccms####)
  2. Create (+New) or Find & Edit the post with the correct course number and title (COM ### Title).
  3. If there is/was an assignment/project description, copy/paste it to the post.
  4. Text Assignment
    • Copy/paste, and reformat the assignment text if the assignment is 3 pages or less.
    • If the assignment is greater than 3 pages, copy/paste the summary or introduction paragraph.
    • Click the Add Media button and upload AND insert into post the PDF version of the file. Do not upload any Microsoft .doc or .docx files.
  5. Mixed text/photo, Photography, Video Assignment If the assignment is mixed text with a photo(s), or a photo gallery(ies), or a video please follow your professor’s instructions for uploading files or email f7709@zu.ae

Welcome Fall 2015 Internship Students

Dear Girls,
I want to personally welcome you to the Fall 2015 Internship Class.
There are a few changes to the internship class in the Fall semester that I want to inform you about.
1st, all CCMS internship students, starting in the Fall semester, will be writing the IELTS I will have more information for you in September.
2nd, not only will I be running a series of revised internship workshops that are mandatory during the 1st 10 weeks of the semester,  Student Affairs will also be running several workshop that you must attend.

We will be officially meeting during the 2nd week of the fall semester to start the process, but you do have some summer homework.
We have a blog site for the course that has a list of sites students have been to in the past and links to all the general information you need about the internship program.
Bookmark the blog and read the information well.

Please look at the CV writing guide and triple check your CV for grammar, spelling, punctuation and general content. Once you have a completed CV please send me a word copy through the link below.

You also need to complete a parental agreement form and include 3 sites you would like to intern at.  Read the form carefully there are NO GUARANTEES of placement where you pick and you will have to be a partner in finding a site.

When we meet in September I will have you complete a 3rd form for the Student Success Office.

The Internship is in POTb from October 18 to December 10.

Great Summer position in Dubai with VisitBritain!

The internship role will focus on destination marketing campaigns with aviation partners including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad and  Turkish Airlines.
They will have the opportunity to join partner meetings, help develop creative briefs and assisting me in executing marketing campaigns throughout the Middle East, APAC and Turkey regions.

In additional there will be a requirement to support the local Gulf team with their upcoming major ‘Dunes to Countryside’ campaign.
There will be various marketing communication activities and operational support that the intern will be able to be involved in.

At this stage we are looking to receive interested candidates CV’s. The intern program will go for 2 months over June/July, 2015.

Poster Examples From the Fall.

Girls this is ONLY the 2nd set of posters done for the internship, yours are the 3rd GROUP.

I think there is still a long way to go when it comes to a A grade poster.

DO NOT USE THESE POSTERS AS THE GUIDE to EXCELLENCE.

What you need to keep in mind is the simple fact that the objective of the poster is to help FUTURE students make placement choices.

1. the poster is the last thing you will do as a CCMS student and should show that you can write, present and create excellent stories from a variety of information.

2. think in terms of copy and art, BALANCE!

3. remember the audience and the purpose.

4. use links to send students to images, video, audio or any other additions to the poster.

5. your poster should be better, in terms of content, layout and design than what you did the day you joined Zayed University!

Girls the poster presentations will take place on Tuesday June 9th in the Atrium.

10:30-11:30 Career Services Presentations
Time 12-1pm

You want your poster to be able to stand the test of time and act as a resource to students in a years time who are asking why they would or would not want to go to your site!

Poster and Classroom Presentation Criteria
ALL internship students will be expected to do a 5 to 10 minute comprehensive presentation of their internship experience to a CCMS class taught by their faculty internship supervisor.
ALL internship students will need to produce a standard A1 sized professional quality poster , BUT DONE BY THE STUDENT, to present the internship to the ZU community, these will be posted in the Atrium and explained by the student.
Students will be available during a designated common break in the atrium to explain their poster and answer questions.
BELOW are the expectations of both the presentation and poster.
General Introduction:
*All basic information included:
-Name, internship site, general introduction of the organization,
including its mission, customers, number of employees, etc.
-Department(s) where students worked
-Supervisor(s)
Work Assignments:
*Outline specific tasks assigned and completed
*Explain learning outcomes realized from these assignments
Evaluation of Work Assignment:
*Discuss what was learned from the internship
*Include an overall evaluation of the organization
*Make recommendations to the organization
for improving the internship experience
ZUs Role in Your Internship
*Include what should have been learned at ZU before going
to the internship
*Make recommendations for improving the internship program
What will be evaluated
*Delivery was well-paced and points were clear
*Good use was made of the available technology
*Use of English was clear and correct; grammar errors
were avoided; pronunciation and articulation made
*presentation easy to understand
*Presentation was well-organized and complete
*Physical behaviors (gestures, etc.) contributed to the
overall presentation
*High quality poster, professional standard, representative of a student graduating from CCMS
